  Carpet in the Bathroom? It’s Back! Finish Work, Paint and Tile | (0)

  So you thought you liked the carpet that was in the bathroom before? (Refer to lovely orange shag in the bottom of this "before" photo. Before: Check it out now! After (well, Now): Yeah, it's THAT kind of carpet. Awesome hu? Tile work has continued in the master bathroom as well: Before: After (well, Now): Also, wood floors have begun to go down in anticipation for tomorrow's cabinet installation.

  Making the Wood Feel at Home Finish Work | (0)

  I picked up the wood earlier this week and loaded it into the small bedroom. It has to get use to the space before it's installed. Does it look like 600 pounds of oak? (It sure felt like it when we moved it in) Installation starts on Wednesday in preparation for cabinets on Friday.

  Let’s Tile a While with Travertine Paint and Tile | (1)

  The two bathrooms upstairs began getting tiled this week. The master bath, since it has a window is getting darker travertine, and the hall bath is getting lighter travertine. Both are getting an accent color of the other tile. Here's the beginnings of the master bath's tile: (Notice the cool brick accent, that will be repeated in large tiles on the bathroom floor) Master Bathroom Each bathroom will have a niche to put shampoos, soaps, etc. Craig - the tile guy - recommended we put a slight lip in the bottom for larger bottles.   A “Weak” of Texture and a “Weak”end of Paint Paint and Tile | (0)

  So I made a decision to re-texture the entire house and to replace the somewhat globby orange peel texture with a more modern "old world" texture look. It was quite the project and left me, my friends, and my handyman's arms feeling quite "weak". But the result is awesome!   Another 70’s House Discovery Demolition | (0)

  In preparation for the painting this week, I tore out the brown carpeting on the stairway and discovered another 1970's gem. What house would not be complete without a few accents of olive? I'm sure the original appliances had that olive glow as well... it would have looked so hip with the fake marble counters, and dark wood cabinetry. Enjoy!

  Basement Demolition Nearly Completed Demolition | (0)

  Once the upstairs is nearly done, I'm going to get started on the basement. I've been working on getting it gutted with the help of some friends. It's looking very much like a truly unfinished basement at this point. These photos aren't that interesting, but when we see the "after"s, I'll be glad I took them.   First Cabinet Installed Finish Work | (0)

  The first of many cabinets have been installed. I was glad to get this one early, since it gives me a good idea of how the kitchen cabinets will look. You can see below the before (nothing) and the after of where this cabinet is going. (It was swapped from the hallway into the bathroom behind the door.)   Wood Floors Selected! Plans and Ideas | (0)

  So it was quite the task to find a wood floor in such a short time. (Note to self, pick out and order in advance). I tried many different places, but finding a wood that was both right for the space (from a design standpoint) and available in both my time frame AND in my budget was quite the task. I ended up ordering an oak solid wood floor from the The Wood Floor Warehouse in Orem. Keith there was very helpful, and their selection in-stock was quite good.   Playing in the Mud Construction | (0)

  So a couple of you who've visited this site have asked - "what's going on at the 70's house?" Well, there has been lots of progress, but most of it doesn't look dramatic in the photos, so I've held off posting some more. Last week was filled with a lot of work to skim coat the walls (hiding the majority of the poorly done "orange peel" texture) and some of the ceilings (killer work!).   What? Over 4 Tons? Demolition | (0)

  Last weekend we unloaded the garage of all of its contents, including rocks from the fireplaces, old tile and grout from the bathrooms, various drywall pieces, studs, old torn up and damaged carpet, etc. We filled up the bin in just over 4 hours to equal over 4 tons of waste. Here's what the pile looked like before we started. (It was pretty late, so I didn't get an "after" picture.
